My grandniece, Jala Satterwhite had a traumatic situation this summer with her sweet little fur baby, Murphy. Murphy is a silly and curious cat, who managed to get herself in a real pickle in the middle of July. She swallowed something and ended up with a stomach obstruction that could have ended her life. That would have been devastating for Jala, because…well, Murphy is her baby!! In a panic, she rushed her baby to a vet, and was told first that nothing could be done, and then Lifetime Small Animal Hospital took her when no one else would. That solved the care problem, but then there was the “money problem” that surgery always brings. To operate on Murphy, would cost $2300…money Jala didn’t have.
That was when Jala’s “Fur Miracle” started. A couple of people, Eliza Hurst and Monica Bennett, set up a Venmo fund raiser and got the word out that little Murphy needed the help of the community. The entire community of Powell, Wyoming stepped up for the cause. Eliza 
and Monica’s daughters set up a lemonade stand, with the proceeds to go to Murphy’s care too, and sales went very well. Jala was shocked at just how quickly the community came together to make sure Murphy’s funds were paid, so she could get the best care, and so she could come home to Jala! Jala was blessed beyond anything she thought could possibly happen, and just writing about it is cause tears of joy for me. What a great blessing the community of Powell has been to Jala and to Murphy. The surgery was a great success, and Murphy is back to her “normal silly self, was so happy to be back home, and is recovering well.”
In the end, the community collected enough for follow-up visits and care, meaning that the miracle just continues on. The community came to Jala’s rescue so quickly, that all the funds were raised within 24 hours! It was amazing! Jala’s friend Eliza Hurst did all the work out of the kindness of her heart! Jala’s mom, Susam Griffith was also very grateful, because in her words, “This cat goes EVERYWHERE with her, and everywhere 
with us when we babysit. She calls her – her child. Haha!!!” It’s so hard to watch your child (even if they are grown up) go through something like this, and Susan was so amazed and pleased with how the community came together to help her girl and her fur baby!! Jala is a sweet loving girl, and it warms my heart to see so many people step up to help her. Today is Jala’s birthday, and now it will be a very blessed birthday. Happy birthday Jala!! After high school, my grandnephew, Weston Moore decided that he wanted to make a chenge in his life. So, he and a couple of friends made the move last April from Powell, Wyoming to Butte, Montana. They just wanted to get out of a small town and try living in a bigger city for a while. It’s only 4.5 hours from Powell to Butte, but it’s far enough to make any kind of regular visits difficult. It’s enough to give these young men a taste of adult life, and they are doing very well with it. They have jobs, and they are making friends…basically settling in well. Weston has come home a couple of times for visits, but it’s just not the same for his family…parents Machelle and Steve Moore, and brother, Easton Moore. His family wishes it wasn’t quite so far.
In February, Weston realized a longtime dream of his…adopting a fur baby. The family all met up in Billings for the day so Weston could pick up Kuvo…a Malamute puppy. Kuvo is so cute and very lovable. Apparently, Kuvo is quite a character, and keeps Weston and the guys quite entertained with his antics. Kuvo really is a beautiful dog. He reminds me of the dogs on “Snow Dogs.” Who knows maybe he will eventually have a team of Malamute dogs, and he can take them to Alaska for the Iditarod…well, you never know…it could happen.
Weston has been enjoying bachelorhood and is in no hurry to get tied down. He is just enjoying his freedom and relaxing. He recently got a new gun, so I’m sure he’s been out doing some target practice. And speaking of target practice, on one visit home, Weston and his dad went out in the back 
yard for some knife throwing practice. It’s an interesting idea, but not that one I think I would be very good at, but then the Moore family are very outdoorsy, so they like that stuff.
Weston also likes video games, like most people his age. And he loves posting funny stuff online. That doesn’t mean he never posts serious stuff too, but he has a great sense of humor, and the funny stuff makes him happy. Weston is usually wearing a smile, and that makes those around him smile too. People just naturally like to be around him. While his family misses him, we all wish him well in Butte, or wherever he might eventually land. Today is Weston’s birthday. Happy birthday Weston!! Have a great day!! We love you!!
My niece, Kayla Stevens joined our family when she married my nephew, Garrett almost two years ago. In that time much has changed in Kayla’s life. When Kayla and Garrett met, she was living in Casper and going to college. They hit it off right away, and can thank Garrett’s sister, Lacey for introducing them, because they both knew that they had found their forever love. They lived next door to my mom, Collene Spencer, Garrett’s grandma for quite a while, much to the pleasure of many of her great grandchildren, who all loved to go see Kayla and Garrett, and who were always treated so well by both Kayla and Garrett, that the kids would have probably stayed for hours if their parents hadn’t made them come home. Kayla and Garrett love children, which is a well known fact to all who know them.
After Kayla completed her college, she began to look for jobs in her chosen field of Social Work. They knew they wanted to be either in Casper, where his family lives, or Sheridan, where her family lives, so she applied in these places, and they let the job offers decide where they would settle down and eventually raise a family of their own. When the best offer was in Sheridan, Kayla accepted and they moved to Sheridan. Her job at Wyoming Mental Health Clinic is going well. She started out on the substance abuse team, but now has been transferred to the child and family team, which is really where her heart is for sure. She has always love working with kids. Garrett found a job at Craftco Metals Service, where he is a welder, like his grandpa, Allen Spencer before him. Next they began the hunt for a home, finally settling on one they loved, and buying it last year. Immediately after buying their house, their family grew by one fur baby named Charlie.
Next, came the word that Kayla and Garrett were expecting a baby in the summer of 2018. In due time they announced the gender of their precious little one. Their daughter is due on August 22, and we are all very 
excited for them. Their love for kids is finally going to be showered on a child of their own. Last weekend, my sister, Alena Stevens, Garrett’s mom; and his sisters, Michelle and Lacey threw a baby shower for Kayla, Garrett, and their daughter, whose name is yet to be announced. We may not know her name yet, but we all love her already, and she is all set with everything she will need when she arrives. These last few years have been filled with exciting new changes for Kayla, who is just living the sweet life. Today is Kayla’s birthday. Happy birthday Kayla!! Have a great day!! We love you!!
